Deputy James Ennis, District I Patrol observed the Dodge violate the

red light at Fletcher Avenue and N. Palm Drive.  He activated his

emergency lights in an attempt to get the car to pull over.  The driver

accelerated at a high rate of speed onto U.S. F. campus.  Deputy Ennis

turned his emergency equipment off, but continued onto the campus to

look for the vehicle.  The deputy observed the aftermath of the crash at

the 131st intersection and drove up to the scene to render aid.  The

Dodge had run a second red light as he was west bound on 131st Avenue

exiting the campus and was struck by the Lexus, which was south bound.

The Dodge’s back end then struck a utility pole, which caused the death

of both occupants.  The investigation is continuing.  Deputy Ennis followed

the Sheriff’s pursuit policy by not engaging in a pursuit for traffic offenses.
