Police confronted two people suspected of criminally trespassing on Wal-Mart property.

One man was killed and an officer was injured during a police chase in East San Antonio.

It happened Monday afternoon on Loop 410 near Rigsby Avenue.

San Antonio Police Department officers said a Wal-Mart security guard told detectives a man and a woman were criminally trespassing on the store's property.

According to reports, police confronted the woman. That's when the couple began hitting the officer. Witnesses said the couple then took off across Loop 410.

"He just kept running," witness Rev. Melvin Jones said "She couldn't make it, she wasn't as fast as he was, because he ran off and left her. He went up that hill and all of a sudden I heard somebody hit the brake and heard a boomp."

Police said the male suspect died at Brooke Army Medical Center. His identity has not been released.

Emergency Medical Services took the officer to the hospital with facial injuries. The woman was taken to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital for an evaluation.
