SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. -- One civilian has died in an accident during police pursuit of a van carrying armed robbery suspects from Indiana to Illinois.
According to police, an armed robbery took place Saturday at a bank in Dyer, Ind. Police reportedly chased a van carrying the suspects into Munster, Ind., where the pursuit resulted in an accident that killed an innocent bystander, a man who was returning to the nursing home where he lived.
The pursuit continued across the state border into Illinois. In Sauk Village, three men reportedly exited the van. Police apprehended two of the suspects from the van -- a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old -- and Saturday afternoon were searching for the third, believed to be in his late teens.
According to police, the three suspects entered the bank in Dyer with one shotgun but never attempted to rob it. Instead, they reportedly held up a security officer at the bank, taking his money and his gun.
There was no further information on the victim.
