A man who police believe is responsible for the death of a local mother appeared in court Wednesday for his arraignment.
Eric Galloway, 20, stood before a judge at the 46th District Court in Southfield on 12 charges including second-degree murder, fleeing and eluding police and misdemeanor drug charges, following a chase that began in Beverly Hills Monday morning.
Police say the chase started around 1:20 a.m. when officers attempted to pull over Galloway, who was driving a 1992 Dodge Caravan -- believed to be stolen -- with a broken taillight.
The chase ended at the intersection of Southfield and 12 Mile roads in Lathrup Village when Galloway (pictured, left) ran a red light at 80 mph and struck a Ford Taurus with three people inside, according to police.
The driver of the Taurus, Haimanot Teesma Amsalu (pictured, right) -- a 36-year-old
mother of two from Southfield -- was killed in the crash.
The two passengers in her car were taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where they remain in stable condition.
Galloway reportedly attempted to flee the accident scene on foot, but was later tracked down by the Southfield Police Department canine unit, Local 4 reported.
Police believe Galloway initially sped away from police because he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Galloway has a previous criminal record of drugs and stealing, according to the station's reports.
A judge denied him bail on Wednesday. If convicted of murder charges, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
